‘Of course I made the pie’: White House Press Secretary disprove ‘PieGate’ conspiracy

Conspiracy theorists had a field day with a photo of a perfect looking pie the White House Press Secretary says she baked, but looked like a stock image, she is now insisting she did indeed bake it herself.

‘Of course I made the pie,’ Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Fox News. ‘I make it for every holiday family gathering and have for years.’ The chocolate pecan pie photo even achieved it’s own hashtag, with people calling it ‘PieGate.’

Not to take Sanders at her word, of course, as this is as delicious of a conspiracy theory as these things go, sources in Sanders’ family also confirmed the confection was as real, and as tasty, as it appeared.

Sanders, who should be laughing as much as everyone else at this ridiculous theory, brought generations of her family into the mix. She said she used a recipe handed down to her from her mother and her grandmother.

‘I also used to make them for my neighbors on my street at Christmas every year,’ Sanders said.

The original tweet of the chocolate pecan pie was shared on Thanksgiving.

Sanders shared: ‘I dont cook much these days, but managed this Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving at the family farm!’

Conspiracy theorists said not so fast White House mouth piece, that is a stock photo of a pie.

Piling on was a frequent face in the White House press pool, April Ryan, who egged on the ridiculous, and curious, exchange.

Ryan tweeted at Sanders: ‘Show it to us on a table.’ Granted, by the time Ryan gets in on the action, its now a full day later on Black Friday. If the pie tasted as good, and oddly perfect as it looked- that thing is long gone and in the Sanders family’s bellies.

However, as any good journalist would do, Ryan kept at it.

‘I am not trying to be funny but folks are already saying #piegate and #fakepie Show it to us on the table with folks eating it and a pic of you cooking it. I am getting the biggest laugh out of this. I am thankful for this laugh on Black Friday!’ Ryan mercilessly mocked.

Another White House press flack, Cheryl Bolen with Bloomberg, also jumped into the fray. ‘No table shot @AprilDRyan but my husband’s apple pie cooling on our stovetop yesterday.’

While the delicious ridiculousness continued- Sanders never offered up further proof of the pie being an actual pie in their Thanksgiving feast- however she did get in on the action, and things ended on a rather sweet note.

‘Don’t worry @AprilDRyan because I’m nice I’ll bake one for you next week 😉 #RealPie #FakeNews.’

We may never know if Sanders did, or did not, bake that pie. If it was a stock photo-someone surely would have found the original by now.
