President Trump touted the strength of the stock market and new home sales as he pushed for the GOP’s effort to overhaul the tax code.
“New home sales reach a 10 year high,” Trump tweeted Monday night. “Stock Market has more record gains. Hopefully Republican Senators will give us the much needed Tax Cuts to keep it all going! Democrats want big Tax Increases.”
The House passed its version of the tax reform bill earlier this month and the Senate Budget Committee is scheduled to take up the Senate’s version of the bill Tuesday.
Nevertheless, some Republicans have doubts about the measure. For example, Sens. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Steve Daines, R-Mont., have said they will not support the bill as currently written because they argue it doesn’t provide enough tax breaks to small businesses.
The Senate is attempting to pass the tax reform bill before the end of 2017, which would provide the Trump administration and GOP members of Congress a huge legislative victory.
